I recently had the absolute honour of capturing a stunning Punjabi engagement at the UBC Boathouse, and it truly is one of the most beautiful waterfront venues in the Vancouver area for couples planning an elevated yet intimate celebration. Located in Richmond, BC, the UBC Boathouse offers breathtaking views of the water paired with a modern indoor space that allows for a seamless indoor-outdoor flow.
For me honesty is the right policy so one thing to keep in mind before booking this venue is the access to the dock involves taking a set of stairs down to the waterfront. For brides or guests wearing traditional lenghas, sarees, or heels, this can require a bit of extra care. While there is an elevator on-site, it is strictly reserved for accessibility use and is typically enforced as such. That being said, the waterfront VIEWS of this venue are so worth it – you will not find this experience at a banquet hall!! The backdrop along the water truly elevates the portraits in a way that feels effortless and timeless.
From a photography perspective, this location offers incredible opportunities for both candid documentary moments and intentional editorial portraits, especially during golden hour when the waterfront glow softens everything in the most timeless way.
What I loved most about this engagement wasn’t just the view, but how effortlessly the venue enhanced the emotion of the day, it allowed space for genuine laughter, meaningful family exchanges, and portraits that felt elevated without ever feeling overly posed. For couples searching for a waterfront engagement venue in B.C. Canada that accommodates Punjabi traditions while still feeling modern and refined, the UBC Boathouse is absolutely worth considering, and if you’re looking for a photographer who understands the importance of cultural moments, calm direction, and those small details like adjusting your dupatta or guiding family portraits smoothly, I would love to connect and help you document your celebration in a way that feels both timeless and true to you.
